Google Workspace add-on
Up and running in two minutes
Install once from the Google Workspace Marketplace. The sidebar then appears in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.
Install it yourself
- Open the AbacusAI Assistant listing on the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install.
- Review the permissions Google shows and click Allow. They cover only the file you have open.
- Open any Doc, Sheet or Slides file and go to
Extensions›AbacusAI›Open AbacusAI for Docs(or Sheets, or Slides). - Sign in with your Abacus.AI account using the one-time code shown in the sidebar. If you do not have an account yet, create one in the same step.
Deploy it for your organization
A Google Workspace super admin (or an admin with the Google Workspace Marketplace privilege) can install the add-on for everyone, or for specific organizational units and groups, so users never install anything themselves. These are Google's steps; the full article is linked below.
- Sign in to the Google Admin console and go to Menu › Apps › Google Workspace Marketplace apps › Apps list.
- Click Install app, then find and select AbacusAI Assistant for Google Docs, Sheets & Slides in the Marketplace.
- Choose Admin install and click Continue. (Individual install installs it for your admin account only.)
- Review the data access the add-on requests, the developer's terms and the policies, and accept them.
- Choose who gets it: Everyone at your organization, then Finish; or Certain groups or organizational units, then Next, pick the units or groups, Select, and Finish.
Changes can take up to 24 hours to reach every user. You can change who has the add-on, or uninstall it, from the same Apps list at any time. Each user still signs in to their own Abacus.AI account from the sidebar.

Try your first prompt
The assistant reads the file you have open before it acts, so you can describe the outcome you want.
“Summarize this document into five bullet points.”
“Add a totals column with SUM formulas and bold the header row.”
“Build a six-slide outline on this topic with speaker notes.”
What the permissions mean
Google asks for these the first time you open the sidebar. Each one is used only for the purpose stated here.
- View and manage the document, spreadsheet or presentation the add-on is installed in — to read the file you currently have open and to apply the edits you ask for. The add-on cannot open, list or access any other file in your Google Drive.
- Display and run third-party web content in prompts and sidebars inside Google applications — to show the assistant's chat panel in the sidebar.
- See your primary Google Account email address — to pre-fill the email address when you sign in to your Abacus.AI account from the sidebar.
